Filio Williams, an elderly American with Greek roots, travels to Lesbos with her granddaughter Helen to help Syrian refugees. No one knows that her grandmother, Filio Baltatzi, who comes from Smyrna, once found herself in the very same situation of being a persecuted refugee on the same island. The film unfolds the eventful history of the cosmopolitan Baltatzi family, which was shaped by the tragic events during the conquest and destruction of Smyrna by the Turkish army in 1922. Different generations of women from the same family are connected in space and time by the threads of history. Present and past become one.
