The worldwide appearances and workshops of performance artist and gender activist Diane Torr are legendary today. The documentary film by director Katarina Peters observes a Diane Torr workshop in Berlin, where a group of open-minded women from different backgrounds come together to discover the secrets of masculinity.

For over thirty years, her work has focussed on exploring the theoretical, artistic and practical aspects of gender identity. What makes a man a man and a woman a woman? Where and when is gender identity formatted? What is natural, what is trained? Each of Torr’s workshops represented an open-ended laboratory experiment in social behaviour in which the question is posed: Is it possible to consciously play out different roles and create a space where both masculine and feminine characteristics can be transcended?
