Information about the festival

DOK.fest München is Germany’s largest documentary film festival. At the 39th edition, 109 films from 51 countries will be screened in cinemas from 1 to 12 May. For those unable to attend, they will also be streamed from 6 to 20 May.

With documentaries from around the globe, DOK.fest München takes an expansive yet detailed look at the world we live in. With top-class film entries, including major film premieres and international gems, as well as many specials and engaging discussions about the films, the festival brings together the cream of current documentary filmmaking in all its variety of topics and formats.

With the DOK.focus Democrazy series, the festival’s main focus this year is on European politics. The Filmmakers in Exile series presents works by filmmakers who were forced to flee their home countries for political reasons.

The DOK.forum is the DOK.fest’s industry platform, which provides a networking opportunity for international filmmakers. DOK.education has a programme of media education workshops specially for children, youngsters and schools, while the Student Award presents outstanding films by students from German-speaking universities.

In co-operation with the Munich Public Library, DOK.fest events will also take place in the Projektor at Gasteig HP8.
