Information about the festival

From the very young to the nearly grown-up, “Der Gasteig brummt!” takes visitors on a musical voyage of discovery, providing a chance to listen, try out, dance, sing and play along. As every year, the Gasteig’s resident institutions and many of the art centre’s other partners offer a varied hands-on programme for children and youngsters. Over two days, concerts and workshops will fill the Gasteig’s spaces with life. And you’ll also be able to take a close look at and try various musical instruments.

On 21 and 22 February 2025, the Gasteig HP8 will once again be abuzz with kids at the annual Der Gasteig brummt! children’s festival: two days of song and dance, listening, drumming and clapping in more than 60 workshops and concerts.

This year’s main theme is sounds from around the world. In a range of music workshops, kids can learn all about the sound of African music, Anatolian dances and much more. And there will also be classical music, of course, with our very own Munich Philharmonic. From picture book readings with instruments for the very youngest to dance and singing workshops, we have something for all ages.

Tickets cost €2.50 per event per person. They include travel on Munich’s public transport (MVV) and will be available from 20 January 2025 at our webshop.

“It’s great to see the kids interacting with the artists on stage with such joy. To experience this enthusiasm even from children who don’t normally have easy access to music is wonderful.”

An Event of Gasteig München GmbH in cooperation with the Gasteig Cultural Foundation, the Munich Philharmonic, the Munich Public Library, the Münchner Volkshochschule, the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and the The Munich Chamber Orchestra. An initiative of the Munich Philharmonic. We would further like to thank all our other partners and institutions, especially the artists and instrument makers, for their participation.

A look back at Der Gasteig brummt! 2024

For the 20th time, thousands of music enthusiasts young and old invaded the Gasteig. The two-day event allowed children, youngsters, families and school classes to “invade” the Gasteig HP8 in Sendling and find out all about the music activities taking place there through a wide range of workshops, concerts and participative sessions. The programme on 22 and 23 March was varied and was once again enthusiastically received by all who attended.

Music inspires

The Der Gasteig brummt! festival has a wide range of music and activities on offer and will provide plenty of enjoyment for newcomers to the world of music as well as seasoned music fans looking for new inspiration. Bringing kids in contact with music at an early age is what motivates the makers and musicians involved as well as many teachers.

“This festival holds a wonderful mix in store for the kids: it lets them experience the concert atmosphere in a big auditorium, and they can take a look backstage, where they can meet the musicians and learn all sorts of interesting things about their instruments. A trip to the Gasteig is the best way of showing kids what music is all about.”
