In April and May 2024, 18 improv teams will compete in an international competition. The ImproEM is taking place as a cultural supporting programme for UEFA Euro 2024. A battle, just like a football match, except here it’s the audience that decide who goes through to the final.

The shows are held in plain English. Three qualifying rounds will determine the strongest teams for the final round in May.

Improv theatre offers the audience a unique, engaging experience, as each performance is completely spontaneous and improvised. Everything happens in real time, the actors reacting to each other without a script and with unexpected twists and turns. The ImproEM promises plenty of laughs, international flair and fantastic entertainment.

The competing teams are from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, England, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey. Accompanying the championship is a varied programme with shows for schools, workshops and other cultural exchange activities.

In addition to funding from the Fußball & Kultur foundation and the German government, ImproEM is also supported by Munich’s Department of Education and Sport and Department of Arts and Culture, as well as numerous venues throughout Munich.
