Chrysoula died in 1887 aged 17 and was buried in a village near Istanbul. 37 years later, her family left the village and moved to Greece as part of the population exchange between the two countries. A hundred years on, the director’s family, who live in her former house, find Chrysoula’s gravestone during repair work. This discovery in 2016 marks the start of a search that ends Thessaloniki in 2022.
