Last year, Piotr Beczała was awarded the Opus Klassik as Singer of the Year. But the accomplished Polish tenor’s career did not begin on stage: after studying singing in Katowice, he started out, quite down to earth, in the streets of Vienna. First appearances and engagements in Linz and Zurich and with roles such as Tamino in Mozart’s Magic Flute at the 1997 Salzburg Festival, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Wiener Staatsoper kicked off an international career as one of the world’s premier proponents of the lyric tenor repertoire. Beczała captivates with an exceptionally well-trained voice with a rarely matched richness of colour. For him, his profession encompasses discipline, a sense of responsibility and continuous development, which is why he consistently works on expanding his repertoire – also as a concert tenor. With the Munich Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Marco Boemi, the celebrated tenor now interprets arias from French and Italian operas – “full of yearning, warm in vocal sound”, always with “soul and feeling” (Süddeutsche Zeitung).
