It’s been 20 years since Calexico released their outstanding album Feast of Wire. To celebrate this anniversary, the band around Joey Burns and John Convertino has announced an extended re-release, with which they will also go on tour in Germany.

Even before Calexico released their fourth album, the band eluded any obvious classification. Since their 1996 debut album Spoke, the duo from Tucson, Arizona developed a distinctive musical blend. The albums The Black Light (1998) and Hot Rail (2000) built on a freedom that, until recently, Joey and John also lived as part of the group Giant Sand. Feast of Wire was the apogee to date, with its brilliant mix of desert rock, Tex-Mex, Latin, late night jazz and the sounds of spaghetti western, immortalised in fantastic songs and instrumentals.

Calexico have spent the best part of the last thirty years exploring the dusty musical frontier of the American Southwest, writing unique, cinematic sounds as mysterious and expansive as the arid desert landscapes that inspired them.

Shining bright from under the Tucson, Arizona sun, Brian Lopez is a lead player incrafting the sound of the Southwest indie scene for the past decade and a half. Navigating the space between a classically-trained guitarist and a crooner-style singer, his projects have fluxed between singer-songwriter solo albums and co-fronting the Tucson-based Psych Rock/Cumbia band XIXA. Additionally, his musical talents have been lent to touring with the likes of KT Tunstall, Giant Sand, Mexican Institute Of Sound, Orkesta Mendoza, and is currently with Calexico, while his voice has been featured on many studio recordings.
