About the duo
Carles and Sofia were born in Girona (Catalonia, Spain) and showed exceptional musical talent from an early age. After graduating from Barcelona’s conservatory, they continued their musical education first at the Ecole Normale in Paris and then at the Hart School of Music (University of Hartford, USA).
Performing together since 1987, they are well attuned to each other and united by a strong mutual understanding. They have performed in international concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall (New York), Teatro Solís (Montevideo), Glinka Philharmonic Hall (St. Petersburg) and Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona). They perform regularly in all the world’s capitals, either as a piano duo or as soloists with orchestras such as the London City Chamber Orchestra, the Orquestra Sinfônica de Sao Paulo, the Orchestre de Chambre du Namurois, the Tokyo Chamber Orchestra, the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hermitage State Orchestra.
Their repertoire includes music from Bach’s time to the present day. They perform all the important works for piano for four hands as well as demanding orchestral transcriptions. They have developed a close relationship with many contemporary composers such as John Carmichael and Daniel Basomba, who have dedicated works to the duo.
