“Lady Godiva, which we can see here, is my last large-sized, dramatic oil painting before I became pregnant and devoted myself to small-scale drawing using solvent-free media. The oversized rose seems like an icon, without vase or reason, but with a shadow. Working with shadows is very important and holds great appeal for me. The shadow assures me of the authenticity of things. The cut flower’s larger-than-life size immediately exposes the deception and beautifully emphasises the omnipotence of my artistic wantonness.”
