Rautavaara’s Piano Concerto No 3 conjures up an atmosphere of calm and introspection, while Salonen’s Insomnia explores the dark thoughts that haunt us, especially at night-time. Tchaikovsky titled his Symphony No 1, which takes the audience to a picturesque winter landscape, “Winter Daydreams”. Narrated by Malte Arkona, this youth concert takes you to a world of northern lights, dreamlike images and musical magic.
