2 March 2024 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Czech composer Bedřich Smetana – a good reason to dedicate the 3rd Youth Concert to him. With his Má vlast (My Fatherland) cycle, Smetana created a resounding monument to his Czech homeland. More than just a musical foray through the history, legends and landscape of the Czech Republic, it is a declaration of love to a whole nation. With Vltava (The Moldau), the most famous part from Má vlast, Smetana has created an immortal all-time classic. Conductor Gianandrea Noseda and narrator Malte Arkona take the audience on a musical journey to our eastern neighbour.

Programme

Bedřich Smetana: Excerpts from “Má vlast” (My Fatherland): “Vyšehrad” (The High Castle), “Z českých luhů a hájů” (From Bohemia’s Woods and Fields), “Šárka”, “Vltava” (The Moldau)
