The news of Richard Wagner’s death had a lasting impact on Bruckner’s Seventh: his great role model’s passing prompted Bruckner to reinterpret the symphony’s Adagio as a “requiem” for Richard Wagner and to fashion it as a poignant lament. Andris Nelsons is a Bruckner specialist among the younger generation of conductors.

Baiba Skride must unfortunately take a break from performing and had to cancel her scheduled concerts with Andris Nelsons and the Munich Philharmonic on 26, 27 and 28 June 2024. Instead of the originally planned violin concerto by Alban Berg, Andris Nelsons will now conduct Wagner’s Tannhäuser Overture and the Venusberg Bacchanal. Bruckner’s Symphony No 7 will be performed in the second half of the concert as originally planned.
