Lab Uganda: The Donated Instruments Are Sent Off
17 May 2023 – With the help of Gasteig visitors, more than 200 instruments have been collected for Africa in recent months, including 64 trumpets, 36 trombones, 32 horns and 48 guitars. Currently, the instruments are being bundled into a DHL-sponsored container, which is expected to start its journey in early to mid-June. Music Connects and the Gasteig would like to thank everyone who took part!
Music Connects is a Munich-based, volunteer-run nonprofit that has initiated a unique project in Uganda. Through Lab Uganda, more than 500 people receive regular music lessons in BidiBidi, one of the world’s largest refugee settlements. A converted lorry with a stage, recording studio and instruments travels throughout the settlement every day, providing music lessons, studio space and a place to meet and network.
“This project aligns perfectly with our core mission: providing access to the arts for all.”
The Gasteig and its staff regularly support the project. You can read more about the initiative here on our website.
