From 14 November to 9 December, a special Christmas tree will once again adorn the first floor of Hall E. From its branches hang stars containing wishes from people in need. The Munich Public Library has again teamed up with Malteser Hilfsdienst for the Wishing Tree initiative to brings seasonal joy to people in need throughout Munich. Over the past weeks, they have collected the personal wishes of senior citizens, women and children who are unable to fulfil those wishes for themselves. To reach as many people as possible with the initiative, wishing trees have been set up at several library locations, including at the Gasteig HP8.
The initiative’s patron is Munich’s mayor, Dieter Reiter, and the former German footballer Paul Breitner is a sponsor.
It’s easy to fulfil a wish. This is how it works:
- Take a wishing star from the Malteser Christmas tree (daily from 7 AM to 11 PM).
- Buy the gift written on the star, wrap it and attach the wishing star. If you like, you can add a personal note for the recipient.
- Take your parcel to the public library service point, open Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 7 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 3 PM. Please always take the gift to the library at which you have taken the star.
- Malteser International will collect the presents and distribute them to their recipients by Christmas Eve.
