Information about the festival

As the city’s library, the Munich Public Library strives to empower people to act sustainably. We can only do this with the help of experts. That’s why we are collaborating with Munich’s Mobility Department to hold activities and events as part of the world’s largest sustainable mobility campaign – including at Gasteig HP8 and Gasteig Motorama.

The European Mobility Week is an initiative of the European Commission. Since 2002, it has offered local authorities throughout Europe an opportunity to familiarise their citizens with the full range of sustainable mobility options available in their region.

Taking place each year from 16 to 22 September, innovative transport solutions are presented and creative ideas used to promote sustainable urban mobility. Projects can include the repurposing of car parks and roadways, opening of new foot and cycle paths, testing of electric vehicles, and holding competitions in schools and campaigns for climate change mitigation in road traffic. This allows towns and their residents to demonstrate that sustainable mobility is possible, enjoyable and viable in practice.
