Information about the festival

Yes, that’s right: We’re putting on 40 hours of non-stop entertainment for Gasteig fans of all ages! One hour for each year, like the candles on a birthday cake. This highlight of our anniversary season begins on Friday at 10 AM and ends on Sunday at 2 AM. We’re celebrating art and culture, and all of Munich can join in! And what’s more, the whole festival is entirely free to attend!

On 5 and 6 June, the Gasteig is hosting the longest event in its history: 40 hours of dancing, games and celebration. And it’s absolutely free!

Music, dance, film, literature and much more: every year, more than 1500 events take place at the Gasteig HP8. Our festival to mark the 40th anniversary of Europe’s largest arts centre packs a punch, with 40 hours of non-stop culture to take part in and enjoy.

The festival kicks off on Friday, 5 June at 10 AM in Hall E with a breakfast picnic beneath the giant PLAY disco ball. Ayzit Bostan’s art installation has been adorning the former industrial hall since the start of our anniversary season.

The 40 Hours of Gasteig festival will then continue non-stop into the early hours of Sunday, ending at 2 AM. Together with many of our partner organisations in Munich and the gasteigXchange outreach programme of all the Gasteig family’s institutions, we are putting on a programme full of exciting acts.

Creative workshops for Gasteig fans of all ages will be held throughout the day, interspersed with inclusive events, such as concerts for both Deaf and hearing people.

Moving towards the evening and into the night, music, films and parties take centre stage. Following a surprise concert on Friday at the Isarphilharmonie, Hall E will transform into a cosy cinema, complete with blankets and cushions. On Saturday, following a varied programme from gasteigXchange, you can dance the night away.

You can dip in and out at leisure, picking and choosing whatever tickles your fancy and piques your interest.
