Loriot’s introduction to Richard Wagner’s world of the gods with Jan Josef Liefers and the Staatskapelle Weimar. With humour and perception, this entertaining summary of the four operas finally sheds light on the complicated plot and tackles the divine entanglements. A witty and subtle introduction to Wagner’s epic, it is anything but parody.

Richard Wagner occupied a very special place in Loriot’s life. No wonder, then, that Loriot created his very own version of Wagner’s “Ring” – an entertaining summary of the four operas under the motto: “Things you always wanted to know about Siegfried.”

The “Ring” in One Night, which Loriot often took pleasure in presenting himself, has delighted punters and ardent Wagnerians alike for many years now. Jan Josef Liefers, one of Germany’s premier actors, leads us through Der Ring des Nibelungen, the world premiere of which will have taken place 150 years ago in 2026. Forensic scientist Dr Boerne, whom Liefers has played in the Münster Tatort TV series for 20 years now, is partial to Wagner’s operas, teasing his colleague as “Alberich”. On this occasion, though, Liefers approaches Wagner world of the Nibelungen not from Boerne’s point of view but through Loriot’s text. The music, which includes major scenes from Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung will be performed by a distinguished ensemble of soloists and the Staatskapelle Weimar under the baton of Heiko Mathias Förster. Wagner’s “Ring” in just over three hours – is that even possible? Come and find out!
