Hans Zimmer has achieved the seemingly impossible: Though working behind the scenes in Hollywood for decades, far from the public eye, the German composer has achieved rock-star fame. His outstanding soundtracks played their part in turning many a movie into a blockbuster: from The Lion King and Gladiator to Interstellar and Dune.
Only one other living film composer matches Zimmer in fame: the great John Williams. Nominated for an incredible 54 Academy Awards, the US American has won the award five times, including for what is arguably the most famous melody in film history: his fanfare for Star Wars.
