It’s the 1890s and Estonia is occupied by the Russian Empire. The poet Juhan Liiv is admitted to a mental hospital in Tartu. After managing to escape, he returns to his parents in the village of Alatskivi to recover. When Liiv learns of the murder of a farmer who had apparently found a large fortune that has since disappeared, Liiv decides to investigate. A battle for justice and with his inner demons ensues.
