Four composers, four worlds: The Philludiker invite you to a varied matinee featuring works by Beethoven, Mozart, Bruckner and Grieg.
José Jésus Olivetti conducts a programme full of contrasts – from Beethoven’s powerful Coriolan Overture, Op 62, through Bruckner’s rarely performed Overture in G minor, WAB 98, to Grieg’s atmospheric Peer Gynt Suite No 1, Op 46.
The highlight before the interval is Mozart’s Horn Concerto No 1, K 412 – a work of lightness and elegance, written for one of the most demanding orchestral instruments. Twelve-year-old soloist Magdalena Merz expertly masters the technical and musical challenges of this work.
The concertmaster’s commentary guides the audience through the programme with plenty of humour, lending the music an light-hearted feel and making it and accessible. This is for classical music lovers and anyone who wants to learn more about classical music.

About the Philludiker
The Philludiker were founded in 1991 by Dr Karl August Riemann, a classical philologist at Munich’s Ludwigsgymnasium. Initially conceived as an amateur orchestra comprising graduates, parents and teachers of the gymnasium, it was always open also to other musicians from its very beginnings.
Its repertoire ranges from works of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods to modern compositions. The orchestra’s name is derived from the Greek word “philoi” – meaning friends – and the Latin “ludus” – meaning play, game, or school.
