Whether hip hop or tango, samba or Gaga, disco or salsa is your thing, the annual Tanz den Gasteig lets you take over the whole Gasteig HP8 site. Hall E, Hall X, the rehearsal hall, rooms of the MVHS adult education centre and even the stage of the Isarphilharmonie will all serve as dance floors from the afternoon until late at night. Whether you’re a novice or professional dancer, youngster or senior, single, couple or group, there’s something there for you: from workshops covering a range of dance styles to inclusive dancing with a sign language interpreter. Or if you’re not in the mood to move, why not just listen to the live music or let yourself drift and see what you discover.
This year’s highlight hooks in with Flower Power Festival: a series of workshops with students from the Abraxas Musical Academy to rehearse two songs from the classic musicals Rocky Horror Picture Show and Hair. There’s also a party with disco and flower power sounds like funk and soul with DJs Dr. Getdown (Feelgood Selection) & Bob (Krew) reinterpreting the music of the hippie era. The band Galaxy Walker and the Hoodstarz will provide “groovisdom”, crating their own distinct flavour with a mix of funk, soul, hip hop and pop. And in the Hippie Salon, make-up artists offer festivalgoers a free makeover for that perfect festival look.
Weather permitting, the entire outdoor area of the Gasteig HP8 will turn into a party mile before filling with headphone-wearing festivalgoers for the Silent Disco from 9 PM. Indoors, meanwhile, the volume will be cranked up until well after midnight, with Harry Klein in Hall X, among others. So come and join in the biggest dance do in town!
