No Way Home (published in Germany by Hanser Verlag) is great literature about obsessive love and human abyss – provocative as usual, with a gripping narrative full of surprising twists and turns. T. C. Boyle’s new bumper novel centres on the obsessive love of two men for a woman who cannot decide for which of them to fall. Terry, an LA medical resident, arrives at his recently deceased mother’s house in Boulder City, Nevada. His plan to sell the house are scuppered by the young Bethany, whom he meets in a bar and who takes up residence in the house against his will. While the reclusive Terry can’t resist her, her jealous ex-boyfriend Jesse keeps popping up, warning him that she’s toxic. A violent conflict between the two men ensues in the hot Nevada desert.
