Singer Toby Mulherrin and his band of five soloists from The Roaring Zucchinis will get the party going. It’s all in the mix, which takes us from New Orleans to the present day, with pop hits in swing style. Workshops with Oksana from Swing and the City:
- 8–8.30 PM: Charleston
For those who like lively up-tempo music. In this workshop, you’ll learn a fun Charleston routine and dance it without a partner. Charleston originated in African-American communities between the 1920s and 1940s and is danced to up-tempo swing or New Orleans jazz. - 9.15–9.45 PM: Two-step
Fancy trying out some new dances? In the two-step workshop, you’ll discover just how easy partner dancing can be. This lively style originated in Texas in the early 20th century and is danced to country music. You’ll learn the basics and be able to improvise freely straight away. - 8.30–8.45 PM: Mini Stroll for everyone
Relax with a slow mini-choreography set to a fun song from an animated film and have a go at dancing along with Oksana.
Dance has been a central part of Oksana’s life for over 25 years now. While still at school in Ukraine, she attended her first ballroom dance class and later discovered boogie-woogie. But in 2004, she finally lost her heart to swing dancing, which she has been teaching since December 2007. Dance and teaching have taken her through many countries and cultures, to hundreds of students, through countless hours in the studio and nights filled with music and movement. Today, living in Germany, Oksana shares her energy, inspiration, joy and the sense of purpose that dance embodies with anyone with an urge to move to music.
