Every seven years, the Guild of Coopers, the so-called “Schäffler”, perform their historic dance. Until Shrove Tuesday, 17 February 2026, they will perform in Munich’s public places, including at the Gasteig HP8.
The Schäfflertanz is the traditional dance of the guild of Coopers (barrel makers). Consisting of set figures danced to music, it originated in Munich about 500 years ago.

After the dance performance, from 7.30 PM in Hall E, there will be Bavarian dancing for everyone, a München tanzt! event that invites you to join in and try traditional dances for yourself.
