Performing in Munich for the first time: the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of their chief conductor Kirill Petrenko! With soloist Christian Gerhaher and a first-rate programme, the concert is part of the musica viva series of the Bayerischer Rundfunk to mark the 50th anniversary of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation has been accompanying musical life internationally, promoting the music of our time, and supporting composers, performers, projects and contemporary music events for 50 years now. With the räsonanz – Stifterkonzert initiative, launched in 2016 together with musica viva and Lucerne Festival, the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation facilitates exceptional guest performances of contemporary music by top international orchestras.

The Munich anniversary concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker presents exceptional works of the 20th century: the 1963 composition Gesangsszene by the Munich composer and musica viva founder Karl Amadeus Hartmann, with Christian Gerhaher as soloist; the volcanic-eruptive orchestral work Jonchaies by Iannis Xenakis; György Kurtág’s great lament Stele, written some twenty years ago for the Berliner Philharmoniker and Claudio Abbado; and a new work by Márton Illés, who, like Kurtág, is a former prize-winner of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
