Schumann composed his Cello Concerto in just two weeks but it was never performed during his lifetime. Today, it is considered one of the most important works for cello and orchestra.
Le Figaro has hailed Pablo Ferrández, winner of the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition and exclusive Sony Classical artist, as a “new cello genius”. Ferrández is without question a captivating performer “who has it all: technique, courage, spirit, authority as a soloist, expressiveness and flair”, enthused the Spanish daily El País. Ferrández was born in 1991 into a family of musicians in Madrid and was accepted as a student at the prestigious Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía at the age of 13. He subsequently completed his studies at Kronberg Academy and was awarded a scholarship from the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation.
