The world-famous composer and arranger Vince Mendoza has arranged the best songs from Nils Landgren’s long career for live performance with a large orchestra. Backing Nils Landgren and his trio, the orchestra will add a new dimension to the jazz trombonist’s pieces, performing them live in symphonic arrangements. No one looks forward to these evenings more than Landgren himself, and anyone who has experienced him live knows that this enthusiasm will sweep his audience off their feet from the very first note.
“My 50 years as a professional musician, which coincide with my 70th birthday, are the fulfilment of my lifelong dream. I have travelled the world and had the privilege of working with big names who, to me – a boy from the steel-producing town of Degerfors in northern Sweden – seemed out of reach at the time.
Most likely, I’m also fulfilling my father’s dream, who loved playing the trumpet himself, but never quite had the courage to make a career of it. But my greatest dream has always been to be able to put on an entire evening’s performance with orchestral accompaniment, together with my friends. For a musician like me, the powerful, resonant embrace of a symphony orchestra is the absolute pinnacle. I used to dream of this even as a young man, and I hope that you’ll get to experience it too!”
