Munich Philharmonic: Mozart / Wagner / Dowland / SchumannNathalie Stutzmann (conductor)
Despite the by now decades-long discussion on the authenticity of Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante for wind instruments, we are no nearer to the truth. Tor the audience and the four soloists from the ranks of the Munich Philharmonic this is of no concern: whatever the facts, the Sinfonia concertante is a masterpiece of wind literature.

Richard Wagner penned his Siegfried Idyll as a personal birthday present for his young wife Cosima. Opera aficionados will recognise leitmotifs from the composer’s music drama Siegfried.
Conductor Nathalie Stutzmann also presents a rarity: Lachrimae antiquae stems from a collection of laments by the Renaissance composer John Dowland. Robert Schumann did not look back quite as far as the Renaissance with his Symphony No 2, but his intensive study of Johann Sebastian Bach’s works is clearly evident here.
