Performed by the Munich Philharmonic’s principal hornist, Matías Piñeira, Williams’ fanciful Horn Concerto nevertheless manages to conjure up images of vast landscapes, battle scenes and nocturnal reverie in the mind’s eye. And in his ballet score for Romeo and Juliet, Sergei Prokofiev brings the tragedy of the world’s most famous pair of lovers to life. This is for all those who want to experience what cinema sounds like without a screen, but with a real orchestra.
