While the Münchner Quintenzirkel e.V. charity was founded in 2003, the Münchner Quintenzirkel accordion orchestra goes back all the way to 1951. Founded by Ingeborg Mückenberger, who would have celebrated her 100th birthday in 2026, under the name of Mückenberger-Quintenz I, it is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
The Quintenzirkel is taking this opportunity to present a plethora of arrangements of classical works by J. C. Bach, Elgar, Tchaikovsky and others. The concert’s highlight is Rudolf Würthner’s Münchner Rhapsodie – the original 1958 composition for accordion with which the Mückenberger-Quintenz I became Bavarian champions 50 years ago.
The Münchner Quintenzirkel accordion orchestra is conducted by Max Straußwald since 1990. The orchestra’s quintet, conducted by Martin Costa, will perform works by Hermosa, Zubitsky and Rixner.
