The Munich Philharmonic is kicking off its first concert season with a high-calibre programme under its new principal conductor, Lahav Shani. Martha Argerich, undoubtedly one of the greatest artists of our time, opens the concert evening with Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major – a dazzling blend of jazz bar, Rococo palace and the finest French grandeur.

In The Chichester Psalms, meanwhile, Leonard Bernstein clearly references his Jewish roots, without denying his unmistakable Broadway flair. The Philharmonic Choir takes on the demanding vocal part in the proven Andreas Herrmann rehearsal.

And finally, with Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, Lahav Shani unleashes the explosive force with which modernism burst into concert halls in a scandal-ridden premiere 113 years ago. Just the right piece to mark the start of a new chapter in the history of the Munich Philharmonic under Lahav Shani.
