Mireille Mathieu’s career is like a modern fairytale: What began with the dreams of a little girl from a humble background became an incredibly successful, even unrivalled, global career. Taking to the stage at the tender age of four, the vocal wonder was discovered at a French singing contest in 1964 aged 18 and was quickly hailed as the new Edith Piaf. The rest is history.
Affectionately known as the “Piaf d’Avignon” (Sparrow of Avignon, in reference to Piaf’s nickname “Sparrow of the Streets”), Matthieu has a special connection to her German fans in particular, not least because she often performs German songs and lieder. Her 2026 farewell tour, too, will include great German hits, such as Hinter den Kulissen von Paris, Akropolis Adieu, La Paloma Ade and An einem Sonntag in Avignon.
