A concert by exceptional pianist Michael Wollny and his hand-picked colleagues Tim Lefebvre on bass and Eric Schäfer on drums is the absolute quintessence of Wollny’s approach: as inspired as it is inspiring, startling and free, and – above all – divinely wonderful.

Michael Wollny is the “consummate piano maestro” (FAZ), “one of the few German jazz musicians to be successful in the pop charts.” (Der Spiegel). His band is “one of the world’s great jazz-driven piano trios” (The Guardian). The versatile and – above all – international prize-winning artist behind superb albums including “Wunderkammer” and “Traumbilder” can only be described as a phenomenon, especially because of his inexplicable and unique ability to straddle the gap between jazz and classical music, between Björk, Hindemith and Heinrich Heine, and between improvisation and composition.

Wollny is undoubtedly at his most scintillating when playing in his trio; a band format that is ideally suited to his vision in terms of harmony and rhythm. The “jazz star” is now embarking on the JazzNightsTour – accompanied by Eric Schaefer, the original drummer in his legendary trio [em] and American bass player Tim Lefebvre, who is also known for his work with both Donny McCaslin and David Bowie.
