Summit of two undisputed grandes dames of the piano: Martha Argerich and Gabriela Montero, world-renowned piano virtuosos, perform together at the Isarphilharmonie.
“It’s no news that Martha Argerich only has to poke her head through the door to get her fans excited,” wrote the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The Argentinian-Swiss pianist is regarded a “living legend”, says SWR Kultur. Argerich’s playing inspires audiences all over the world with its enormous lyrical sensitivity, temperament and captivating brilliance. In the course of her brilliant career, the 82-year-old had to endure many personal crises, but always found her way back to life – and to the stage, which she likes to share with her musician friends.
These friends include the Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero, of whom Argerich says that she has rarely encountered a greater talent. “Montero’s playing has everything: crackling rhythmic brio, subtle shadings, steely power in climatic moments, soulful lyricism in the ruminative passages and, best of all, unsentimental expressivity,” writes the New York Times. Look forward to a new piece of music history.
