“My hope in every concert is to express enough emotion to make time stand still.” There is every chance that this is exactly what will happen when Hélène Grimaud plays Maurice Ravel’s magnificent piano concerto in the afterglow of the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth. Her synaesthesia – a phenomenon by which one perceives sounds as colours – lends her performances a special character. With a global career spanning over 30 years, Grimaud is one of the greatest pianists of our time. Besides her musical career, she is a committed animal rights activist and human rights campaigner.
