What an event: Laurie Anderson, icon of the New York avant-garde, is coming to Munich for a one-off concert! Ever since her international breakthrough with the song O Superman, she has been one of the most influential voices of contemporary art. The musician, composer and performance artist has been setting standards since the 1970s.
Anderson, Lou Reed’s erstwhile partner, collaborated in the soundtracks of several of Wim Wenders’ films, including Wings of Desire. She has released a dozen studio albums, including the 2024 album Amelia, a tribute to the famous American aviator Amelia Earhart, the first woman to cross the Atlantic in 1928.
The American artist has worked with Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel and Jean-Michel Jarre, among others. For her new project, she meets Sexmob, the New York band led by slide trumpeter Steven Bernstein, known for their playful, cross-genre jazz. Together they bring musical worlds together – freely, with humour and a clear artistic compass. A captivating, poetic experience.
The Republic of Love with Sexmob and guests is a collection of songs and stories about the current state of America, enriched with historical references. It contains several of Anderson’s songs, including Big Science and Language Is A Virus, which have taken on a new meaning in the light of recent developments. It also contains the words and thoughts of many great Americans, such as Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, John Cage, Gertrude Stein, William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg.
