With techno jazz in big band format, the Jazzrausch Bigband has created a new genre that delights music fans and dance enthusiasts alike. Surprise being a trademark of the Jazzrausch Bigband, the 18 musicians around band leader Roman Sladek and composer Leonhard Kuhn can change their tune in an instant to celebrate the festive season in classic big band style.

“The Christmas programme was our very first concert programme ever,” explains Sladek. “After our foundation in 2014, we have developed it every year. For us it’s the perfect counterpoint in the Advent season to all the wild techno shows.”

With around 120 concerts a year in Europe, America, Asia and Africa, the Jazzrausch Bigband now counts among the world’s most successful big bands.  “Alle Jahre wieder!” is the title of the Jazzrausch Bigband’s new Christmas programme, scheduled for release in 2022. With an infectious enthusiasm, the 20 musicians cover the entire repertoire of big band history with Kuhn’s arrangements of German Christmas carols, which are as skilful as they are humorous. “Tochter Zion” is a tongue-in-cheek take on the Comedian Harmonists, and “Es wird scho glei dumpa” grooves in the style of Herb Alpert. “Ihr Kinderlein kommet” pays homage to the swing of the Basie Band and the title track “Alle Jahre wieder” is a nod to Thad Jones.

The secret to the big band’s phenomenal success: with heart, head and joy, the Jazzrausch Bigband tears down musical boundaries and ensures that band and audience have enormous fun together.

“The beauty of ‘Alle Jahre wieder!’ is that everyone knows the pieces. So the audience and we have a common denominator from which we embark on a journey of discovery together.”
