Founded in the early 1990s in the eponymous New York neighbourhood, the Harlem Gospel Singers showcase the importance of gospel music in American culture. From its origins in the 18th century to the present day, spirituals and gospel have influenced virtually every form of popular music, from blues, soul, R&B and jazz to rock, hip-hop and country.
