The Afro-German singer and composer Hanna Sikasa performs solo on voice and keys as well as with her eight-piece band. They make pop with elements of jazz, soul and R’n’B. When the band gets together, the full power of the songs unfolds. Look forward to an evening with a large line-up at this release concert for the new album Sequel, as the eight-piece band is joined by a string quartet.

The voices of Nadja Lea Letzgus (also on keys), Julia “Jules” Nagele (also on guitar) and Matthias Jung harmonise with each other and are an integral part of the arrangements. Juri Kannheiser often takes on a rhythmic role on the cello and, together with flugelhornist and trumpeter Christoph Braun, is largely responsible for the band’s warm, full sound. Drummer Julian Losigkeit has been associated with the band for a long time, led the recordings for its debut album, Origin, and is the band’s groove foundation since 2023 together with Klaus Sebastian Klose on bass. On 4 August 2023, the new album Sequel (GLM Music) will be released with an extended line-up that includes the Leopold Mozart string quartet. The songs on the album tell of letting go and growing up, of the search for one’s own identity, of loneliness and deep connection, sometimes also of saying goodbye – in a nutshell, perhaps simply of growing up.

“Catchy melodies but sung and arranged with complexity, with poppy clarity, jazzy timbre and poetic, sometimes almost hypnotic lyrics: that’s Sikasa’s already pretty distinctive recipe.”
