But above all, her playful alternation between voice, oboe, cor anglais and piano makes her an exceptional musician who sets new standards as a multi-instrumentalist and effortlessly crosses between genre.

With skill and emotion, with lyrics straight from a philosophical poet’s soul and a warm oboe tone that’s rarely heard outside a symphonic setting, Miriam Hanika sings and plays her way into her listeners’ hearts. She has won numerous singer-songwriter competitions, including the Peter-Rohland-Singe-Wettstreit, the Friedenssong-Wettbewerb Bonn and the Giesinger Kulturpreis). In 2019, she released her debut album, Wanderlust, on Konstantin Wecker’s label Sturm & Klang. Her follow-up work, Louise, released in May 2021, was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award.

On 7 April 2023, Miriam Hanika’s third album, Wurzeln & Flügel will be released. As its name (“roots & wings”), suggests, it is a profound search for home and for contradictions and opposites in our time.  In Hall X, she presents her new album for the first time with a full line-up in cooperation with Munich’s Department of Arts and Culture.
