Since Drum Tao wowed audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2004, the musicians have gained recognition as ambassadors and masters of Japanese drum art in Europe.
At the heart of this mixture of musical meditation and Japanese martial arts are the large traditional taiko drums that the samurai used to beat before battle to send the warriors into a trance-like state. Powerful, at times breathtakingly fast and furious, at times gentle and poetic, like the calm before the storm, Drum Tao give an intoxicating performance that surpasses audiences’ expectations every time.
