Bangladesh, home to the world’s largest river delta, is characterised by its extensive network of rivers and water-rich landscapes. This unique environment has had a profound influence on people’s daily lives, traditions and cultural expression. That’s why Bangladeshi folk music and folk dances are closely linked to nature, the seasons and rural life.
Bangladesh’s folk dances are diverse and rooted in regional traditions and festivals. The focus is on storytelling. A living expression of the country’s rich cultural heritage, every form of dance reflects some aspect of life and nature – the rhythms of the agricultural year, life along the rivers, spirituality and communal celebrations.
In this workshop with Ishika Alim, we will learn all about the Dhamail.
