As a birthday special, Ian Jakab, aka IbuProPhet, will provide the music for the Community Dance with his DJ Bike. Having grown up on three continents, he mixes a record cocktail of juicy South and Central American cumbias, forgotten world beats, and chilled dub reggae blasts with a dash of oriental grooves – in short, music for the soul. Guaranteed not a placebo.
In 2021, he conceived the “DJ Bike”: a solar-powered cargo e-bike with a built-in sound system and DJ console, and launched the non-profit series “Soundtrack for the City”. As part of the project, rotating DJs and sound artists from the subculture scene took over the DJ Bike in Munich’s public spaces.
Community dance is for young and old, for people with and without disabilities, for those who want to try dancing for the first time and for seasoned dancers alike.
Andrea Marton, Ute Schmitt, Ralf Otto and other dancers will guide you through two hours of improvised dance to a wide range of musical styles and periods: from classical to pop, world music to avant-garde, jazz to experimental. Instruction is provided in German and English.
The workshop is led by Andrea Marton, Ute Schmitt and Ralf Otto – dance teachers with many years’ experience who strive to make the art of dance accessible to everyone. Working with contemporary dance, especially improvisation and DanceAbility©, they want to make the art and joy of dance accessible to everyone.
Admission is free, and you don’t need to book a place. There will be a sign language interpreter at the event. You can find out all about accessibility and inclusion at the Gasteig here.
