“My aim is to reach the pinnacle of my career as a pianist at the end of my life. Of course, I don’t know when that will be ... A pity, really. Because the truth is, in my profession you’ve never achieved anything – you can always go one better.”

“My aim is to reach the pinnacle of my career as a pianist at the end of my life. Of course, I don’t know when that will be ... A pity, really. Because the truth is, in my profession you’ve never achieved anything – you can always go one better.”

Those are the modest words of one of today’s greatest pianists. Joachim Kaiser, on the other hand, once described him as “the greatest natural talent on the piano”. One thing is certain: Rudolf Buchbinder is one of the legendary performers of our time. Combining the authority that his career of more than 60 years instils in him with esprit and spontaneity at the keys, tradition and innovation, fidelity and freedom, authenticity and open-mindedness merge in his interpretation of the great piano literature. In March, Buchbinder will give perform Schumann’s Piano Concerto in Munich, accompanied by Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, which will also perform works by Richard Strauss.
