BRSO Conducted by Paavo Järvi: Mozart, Bruckner
For all those who feel they could do with a little more romance, we highly recommend Bruckner’s immensely romantic Symphony No 4. Even in the first bars, the horn’s harmonic sequence tones overlaying the delicate string tremolos hint at the longing for a more wholesome that is then unambiguously expressed with bright, unbroken colours.

But before the concert, you can try your hand at solving another riddle: that of the Prague Symphony. To this day, it remains unknown why Mozart did not also write a minuet for his Symphony No 38, instead leaving it at three movements. His biographer Alfred Einstein simply opined that he had said all there was to say in three movements. The suspenseful arc from sombre spheres to sparkling joie de vivre in “Figaroesque” D major would suggest that he was right.
Unfortunately, Gustavo Dudamel had to cancel his participation at the Isarphilharmonie concerts on 15, 16 and 18 January for personal reasons. We are delighted to have secured maestro Paavo Järvi for the project. The three concerts will take place as planned under his direction and with the same programme.
