Beethoven – himself a virtuoso pianist – also conducted the world premieres of the first four of his piano concertos.
Whilst traditions and key influences are still evident in his early piano concertos, Beethoven’s revolutionary spirit is evident in his later compositions. This special project, which marks the start of the anniversary year, charts Beethoven’s development from the classically inspired virtuoso into a visionary who revolutionised orchestral sound – all in a single, intense and delightfully enlightening evening of music.
