The Times described Omer Meir Wellber, principal conductor of the BBC Philharmonic, as “arguably the most inspired musical appointment the BBC has made in years”. The Israeli made his debut in style at the BBC Proms 2019 and has quickly gained an international reputation as one of the most exciting new conductors. He has worked with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. The former assistant to Daniel Barenboim is now returning to Munich with the magnificent English orchestra.

With his extraordinary talent, Fazıl Say touches audiences and critics alike – a rare occurrence in the increasingly materialistic, complex world of classical music. Concerts with this artist are always something special. Direct, open and exciting, they go straight to the heart.

“Instinct plays a major role for me. There’s a fine balance between maintaining control and letting go. For us humans, the power of music is so overwhelming that we often need to transcend ourselves to master the situation.”
