For his last ever concert at the Isarphilharmonie in Munich, Gerd Guglhör rehearsed a cycle with the 65 or so young singers that traces the development of choral music from the expressive and emotional heights of Romanticism to the tonal innovations of Impressionism and the diverse stylistic approaches of modern times.

Each of the works performed represents important stylistic and aesthetic developments of the epoch in which it was written and offers an insight into the ever changing possibilities of expression in choral music. The programme includes works by Lili Boulanger, Francis Poulenc, Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré, Johannes Brahms, Wolfram Buchenberg, Michael Ostrzyga and Jonathan Dove.

As its artistic director, Gerd Guglhör was instrumental in shaping the Bavarian State Youth Choir’s development for 25 years. The ensemble worked with him on many exciting projects, embarked on concert tours and was awarded the Bayerischer Staatspreis für Musik.
