Kaliopi is Macedonia’s biggest pop-rock star and one of the best-known and most original singers in the Balkans. In her long, successful career, propelled by her unique voice, her powerful interpretation and her plentiful output of hits for both herself and other vocalists, Kaliopi has set the bar high and left a lasting imprint in the world of music. She has become a favourite at home and a musical diva of the Balkans.

Kaliopi took her first steps in music aged nine. With the band of the same name, which she founded together with her then producer, the author Romeo Grill, she achieved her first successes, gaining popularity in the countries of the former Yugoslavia. In 1999 she kicked off her solo career with the album Oboi me in collaboration with Romeo Grill, with whom she still works today. During her career to date, she has released 15 albums and numerous singles, and has won many awards. She has performed in all the major concert halls in the Balkan region as well as in Toronto, Sydney, London, Amsterdam, Moscow, Stockholm, Malmö, Minsk and many more.

At the invitation of Macedonian National Radio-Television, she represented the country twice at the Eurovision Song Contest. The song Crno i belo (Black and White) became a worldwide hit. In addition to her decade-long involvement in pop and rock, Kaliopi’s artistic versatility and inspiration has led her to collaborate on many other projects as both singer and songwriter. She has composed music for film, theatre and ballet, starred in the first Macedonian musical, Cija si (Who do you belong to) and participated in several ethno-jazz projects with the Tavitjan Brothers. One of her most significant collaborations was recording with Edin Karamazov for the well-known album Oblivion. Later on, she also featured on Karamazov’s album The Lute is a Song alongside names like Sting, Renee Fleming and Andreas Scholl.

Kaliopi was appointed Honorary Ambassador of UNHCR for the Republic of Macedonia and Honorary Art Ambassador of the Macedonian Economy in the World. She was also awarded with the statue of Mother Teresa for her outstanding, dedicated personality and her committed volunteer work.
